When companies start working towards getting government contracts, sometimes they fail to do so successfully, and it’s a problem that plagues a lot of companies in the U.S. When a company gets a System for Award Management registration, a lot of benefits come its way; the companies who don’t get any of those contracts aren’t so lucky though. Take a look below at some of the reasons why a lot of companies have issues with their SAM registration.
What Is SAM Registration?
It is basically a free registration that businesses get if they wish to do any dealings in the U.S and with the U.S government. If a company gets a SAM Registration, then in theory, it should be able to contract with federal government businesses and agencies. But sometimes the companies aren’t so lucky with getting any of the benefits, struggling to get the hassle-free treatment and the ways that make their business grow and thrive. There are reasons for this problem, but many people and companies don’t understand these reasons.
Not Doing It Right
Most companies don’t realize that they’ve done something wrong during the process of registering, something that would make their information not get verified with both the IRS and Dun and Bradstreet. Whether you get an ineligible status from any contract awards, or your company isn’t located in the system. This tends to happen when you did your SBA DSBS profile incorrectly, so every company should be careful with that.
Weak Marketing Departments
This is something that proves just how important marketing is in the business world, most companies don’t have the best strategies and plans to carry out a decent government contracting goal. So if your company has weak marketing, it’s probably one of the reasons why you didn’t get the contracts you wanted. It is extremely important to invest in a solid marketing team to succeed.
The Past Left Scars
The sad reality is that even in the business world, some fraudulent companies and organizations were doing bad business. Fraud is one of the things that slows down the process of getting contracts; not that your company itself is a fraud, but the negative experiences of the past have made things really bad and slow for the whole process of getting those contracts.
Errors and Procurement Problems
Some companies tend to not classify their business properly, and that can cause major problems with getting any good opportunities and benefits. And there are RFP and RFI requirements that a company should follow, so it has to understand it thoroughly for the contract to work. But if that doesn’t happen, then your company would have a hard time getting decent contracts with good benefits.
Even though it’s required, some companies find the process a taxing one. So it feels like they would be getting nothing even if they do it, but they have to anyways and hope for the best. It’s a slow process for some companies, especially startups, but it has to happen. Your company’s future and lifespan depends on it greatly, so it wouldn’t hurt to try.
